    Reflective journal: the task
This assignment is designed to develop and assess the capacity for life-long learning, commitment to ethical action and social responsibility, and the body of knowledge relating to business and society. The capacity to reflect is an important element of professional life. It enhances the capacity to evaluate current knowledge and to understand and accept personal weaknesses and strengths. The journal will encourage and assist students to recognise that ethical decision and preference for ethical action do not necessarily lead to ethical action.
    Description of the assignment
The assignment requires the writing of three reflective parts. Each part will reflect on a specific activity within the course. The journal should not exceed 2000 words in length.
There will be a reference list at end of assignment.
There will be exercises in class to assist students in understanding the concept of reflection and to provide an opportunity to practise reflective writing. This will occur before the first entry is due.
    Assessment criteria
    ·         Extent to which  each answer contains reflective writing of own thoughts and drawn from course content and the wider world.
    ·         Depth of reflection.
    ·         Ability to convey reflection clearly in written English.
    Feedback
Feedback on this assessment will be provided on the Feedback form. Please submit a copy of the feedback form in Word format with the turnitin  submission for the marker’s use. Copies in Word format are provided on the course site.
Please complete the self assessment rubrics at the bottom of the feedback sheet and attach a copy to the end of the assignment.
When the feedback sheet is returned students can compare their own assessment with that of the marker as the feedback sheet and the rubrics follow the same format.

    Plagiarism and referencing

Reflective assignments require a record of the writer’s thoughts about individual learning and experience. As such one might expect that there will be little need for the inclusion of references and citations. There are two exceptions. Where the journal entry refers to a specific event – a TV interview, or an item discussed on the web for instance – there needs to be a reference to allow that item to be found. If the reflection uses material written by others then it must be clear which parts are written by the student and which parts cited by you are written by others. Please provide a reference to all suggested readings that you use.

The feedback form for this assignment is given on the Course website
There will be exercises in class to assist students in understanding the concept of reflection and to provide an opportunity to practice reflective writing. This will occur before the first piece entry needs to be written.
