    The whole Assignment (all questions) to be submitted in hardcopy in class on Thursday 1 st  September 2016. In
    addition, Questions 3 and 4 to be submitted to Turnitin on iLearn by 5pm on the same date. An individual
    assessment coversheet is required for the hardcopy submission, which can be downloaded from FBE website.
    Answers to Question 1 and 2 may be handwritten (as long as they are neat and legible). Questions 3 and 4 must

    Total marks for Assignment 1: 50 marks. Assignment 1’s weighting of final grade: 15%
    Question 1
    Presented below are the number of males and females by age groups in the states and territories of South Australia
    (SA) and the Northern Territory (NT) on 30 June 2013. The Age Specific Fertility Rate (ASFR, per 1000) by woman’s
    age group in 2013 and the number of deaths by age group in 2013 are also presented in the table below. Using the
    information provided, calculate the following demographic indicators for South Australia (SA) and the Northern
    Territory (NT) for 2013. Please keep 2 decimal places for all rates and use correct units of measurement:
    i)  Crude Birth Rate (CBR) [4 marks]
    ii) Crude Death Rate (CDR) [2 marks]
    iii) Age-specific Death Rates (ASDR) for males and females in South Australia and in Northern Territory
    [4 marks]
    iv) Total Fertility Rate (TFR) [2 marks]
    v) Percentage population distribution by age and sex [2 marks]
    vi) Present the populations of South Australia and the Northern Territory in two separate population
    pyramids. [6 marks]
    vii) Describe the main differences in age structure at 2013 between South Australia and the Northern
    Territory, and briefly discuss the relationship between population age structure and consumer behaviour.

    According to industry estimates, on 30 June 2013, there were 11.19 million smart phone users in
    Australia. This was 2% increase from 30 June 2012. Assuming Australian mobile phone users will keep
    growing at 2% every year in the future, calculate:
    i)  the total number of smart phone users in Australia at the end of 2020. [2 marks]
    ii) in which calendar year Australian smart phone users will reach 15 million. [2 marks]
    iii) Briefly explain the importance of understanding population size and growth towards understanding
    markets. [2 marks]
    Question 3
    Write a critical review of the literature on the perspectives on consumer behaviour. Your review needs
    to include three main perspectives introduced in the prescribed text book (e.g. reviewing three
    perspectives from economic, psychological, sociological, anthropological and other perspectives) and
    refer to at least three additional references other than the chapters in the prescribed text book. The
    length of the review is expected to be about 600 words. [12 marks]
    Question 4
    Review the following article and write a short essay (400 words) on the impacts of population growth
    and consumption on sustainability. [8 marks]
