• In choosing your topic area on assessment 3 you will need to research the topic

• Locate as many recent research articles that apply our theories and concepts to the topic

area

• Types of publications we are looking for

• “Recent”– media is an incredibly dynamic and fluid research area – try to find

published on or after 2010

• “Relevance” - The articles you select should be relevant to the way we discussed the

• They should explore the connection between media and everyday life

Using the existing research

• Your literature review needs to analyze and synthesize a strategic selection of articles from the

research you’ve located

• You should strive to write in your own independent voice

• The Literature Review should contain your own independent thinking, analysis and evaluation of

the research

• In the concept reflection you were asked to reflect on your own personal experience of the

media and write informally

• Now we want you to produce a scholarly genre of writing (“literature review”) and

substantiate your claims about the topic area with reference to the existing academic

literature

• Indicate a deep understanding of the issues and concepts raised by topic area

• Be based on a review of relevant research

• Be able to point to a future direction of research in the topic area
