    Introduction:
    Knowledge of health assessment is essential to a nurse’s role in promoting health, preventing illness, and caring for others.
     
    Aims:
    To enable you to:
    1.    Understand the purpose of conducting a health assessment;
    2.    consider how a health assessment might be conducted differently depending on the setting and age of the patient / client;
    3.    further develop the written communication skills critical to professional practice.
     
    INSTRUCTIONS:
    Prepare an essay using scholarly literature that:
    1.    Defines the term health assessment and briefly describes the major components of a health assessment;
    2.    Discusses the purpose of a health assessment from a nursing perspective;
    3.    Discuss in your own opinion how you think a health assessment might be conducted differently in TWO of the following situations:
    o    With a child in a community setting (i.e. GP practice, well-baby clinic);
    o    With an adult in a hospital;
    o    With an elderly person in an aged care facility.
     
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    Your essay must:
    ·         Utilise at least five different scholarly sources (i.e. journal articles, books, government body reports, etc.) published in the past five years. Two of the sources must be journal articles.
    ·         Be no more than 1200 words in length. See HERBIE resources on the course site for assistance with managing word count.
    ·         Include an introduction, a main content area (also called body) and a conclusion. Table 1: Suggested Use of Word Count will assist you to structure your essay.
    ·         Be written in the third person, except when you discuss in your own opinion how you think a health assessment might be conducted differently in two situations. You may use first person “I” in this section.
    ·         Include in-text citations within the essay, and include a reference list at the end of the essay. The reference list should include all literature cited in the essay. The in-text citations are included in the word count. The reference list is NOT included in the word count.

    Your essay must be submitted as an Electronic file to the campus-specific Assessment 2 (A2) “final” Turnitin portal available at the course site. You must submit this assessment to be eligible for a passing grade in this course.
