    Concept: Cocoon
     
    Focus: You are to select four artists relevant to your making task and present a curator’s talk based on a virtual exhibition of their artworks. Their artwork should relate to your chosen focus.
     
    Task:
    Imagine that you are a curator of a large contemporary art gallery in Brisbane that encourages the public to explore contemporary approaches to art. The latest exhibition to be held at the gallery features four contemporary artists who explore the concept ‘Cocoon’. As curator you will choose these artists and select at least one artwork from each artist for the exhibition. You will research and develop a curator’s talk to provide an insight into these artworks for the public. 
     
     
    In this task you will present a 10 minute curator’s talk in the form of a discussion comparing and contrasting how the four selected artists in your exhibition have addressed the concept of ‘Cocoon’ through their art work. You will support this discussion with an analysis of each artwork to reveal to your audience how the artists communicated their ideas and meanings. Your talk will also explain how these artworks relate to contemporary art practices.
     
    When selecting artists be sure to research contemporary artists relevant to your Making Task and selected focus.
     
    Your curator’s talk needs to include:
    Þ      Exhibition title.
    Þ      Research and discussion of one artwork by each of the four artistsincluding an explanation of how the artworks touch on the concept of Cocoon.
    Þ      Brief contextual background about the artist’s Art Practice and relevant influences on the artwork selected.
    Þ      Brief discussion about how the selected art works relate to contemporary art practices and trends.
    Þ      Thoughtful analysis of the selected artworks to support your discussion. E.g: 
    - How the artists have used structural properties like composition, elements & principles of design, art mediums, art processes, formats, presentation, etc. to organize their artwork and convey meaning;
    - How the artists has used images, visual codes, symbols, juxtapositions, associations, appropriation, text etc. to convey meaning.


    Guidelines:
    Þ      Research to inform your viewpoints
    Þ      Use appropriate art terminology and language conventions
    Þ      Include colour copies of the artworks you choose to discuss, clearly annotate them with title, art process used and media
    Þ      A transcript of the curator’s talk, word processed (Calibi Light, 11)
    Þ      Cover sheet, stapled to your documents (draft & final).
    Þ      A 10-minute curator’s talk – recorded to CC USB or CD.
    Þ      Conventional APA format for referencing and bibliography is required
